It’s the time of the season for cleanups! But not for much longer. Consider this your last call for seasonal cleanups!

It’s not that we’re giving up on cleaning. On the contrary, our schedules will be chock full of cleaning for the next several months. First, December through March (or maybe April if we’re unlucky) will be snow removal, and now through the end of November will be fall clean up – but that’s the point.

With Busy Lil Beavers living up to our name landscaping all around Elkhart, Bristol, and the surrounding areas, you must get on our schedule before fall cleanup is fully filled up! But perhaps you’re not yet sold on the importance of fall clean up?

Well, in that case, the Beavers have got a few facts for you to chew on.

Seasonal Cleanup Isn’t Just For Looks!

The most important thing about Seasonal Cleanup is that it’s not just a vanity project. Cleaning up your property each season is very important to the health of your yard and all the plants in it.

…But We Do Clean Up Good!

We’ve all heard that looks aren’t everything…but with landscaping, we tend to put looks first. When it comes to your yard, it’s ok to be a little shallow since what looks good is often better for you, too. And seasonal cleanup looks good!

Unless your last name is Addams or maybe Munster, you don’t want your yard to be full of dead plants. Removing them makes your yard look better and gives you more room for the live plants you want.

What Does Fall Cleanup Include?seasonal cleanup in Elkhart INDIANA

Seasonal cleanup is the property cleanup we do as one season ends and the next begins. It’s all about taking out the old and bringing in the new. And no season has a more substantial cleanup than fall.

Leaf Collection

Leaf collection is the start of the fall cleanup show. You probably plan to collect your leaves even if you don’t think about fall cleanup. As much as we love leaves when they first fall, they don’t stay pretty forever and take up a lot of space.

Other Debris

Although leaves get the spotlight, your plants are constantly shedding debris. Branches, petals, blossoms, thatch from grass, and your lawn go through what a recently CGI-ed feline king would call the circle of life. All that debris takes up a lot of space when left unchecked.

Flower Bed Cleanup

Your flower gardens might give your trees a run for their money when in the competition of who changes more between summer and fall.

Annuals die and take up space. Perrenials shed blossoms and go dormant if they’re not cold-weather tolerant. Even those that do well in fall still lose flowers.

We must clean up all these flowers to make room for the still-living plants. In addition, as mulch deteriorates, it needs to be replaced in the fall so that you can get its insulating properties (not to mention color!) through the winter.

How Clean Up Helps

So you know what cleanup is, how, and why we clean up, but how does the cleanup positively affect the changes we’re looking to achieve? How we achieve aesthetic benefit is obvious, but what about the health benefits?

Debris Block Nutrients

The decaying plant matter isn’t great for you to breathe in, though outdoors, you’re unlikely to reach a saturation point. More relevant is that anything lying on top of your grass or other plants prevents those plants from getting everything they need to be healthy.

Otherwise, you can eventually lose plants.

Debris Traps Water

In addition to blocking water and nutrients, plant debris can also do the opposite – keep too much water trapped. When moisture is trapped beneath dead plants on top of living plants, it can create mold, fungi, and plant diseases. In addition, when the weather gets below freezing (it’s coming), water can freeze on top of the grass and other plants, killing them.

Energy for Lifeseasonal cleanup in Elkhart INDIANA

Finally, removing dead or unhealthy plants leaves more room and nutrients for the rest of your landscape. Deadheading, perennial cutbacks, and other pruning work on a similar concept. When the unhealthy parts of plants or removed, it leaves more energy for the healthy parts of the plants to thrive.

So are you ready for winter? You need to be before fall is over! And as we’ve demonstrated, seasonal cleanup is the way to get there.
